instructional design.
how to teach is just as important as what to teach
Years of experience have shown us that instructional design is essential to the development of successful learning materials. For this reason, our work on a new eLearning solution always begins here. In this phase, our senior instructional designers work with your subject matter experts to identify the information, communication or learning need(s) that must be met for success. We then analyze those needs, breaking out their components elements into one or more learning domains: cognitive (facts and figures), affective (attitudes and beliefs), and psychomotor (skills and abilities).
Next, we profile the intended community or communities of learners. We look at the knowledge, attitudes and skills already prevalent and compare that information to the project’s learning objectives. We consider variations in the way different individuals learn, e.g., visual, auditory, conceptual, etc. And we look at alternative times, places, and access methods through which individuals might engage in learning.
In parallel, we continue working with your subject matter experts to organize, prioritize and structure the learning content.
From this process, we produce a design requirements document and a content development plan that details our recommendations for the design of the learning module, presentation, or kiosk solution, including instructional methods and metrics, communication modalities, domain-appropriate scaffolding, and content structure and duration.
