NashvillePost.com has learned that Rob Bironas, the placekicker who is the Tennessee Titans' leading scorer, has hired a local marketer to help him convert his kicking skills into success off the field.
Holly Rooks Grenvicz confirmed yesterday that Bironas has retained her firm, Fresh Dirt Marketing, to provide marketing, web content, celebrity endorsement and related services.
Grenvicz ('Grin-vicks') said she had long told Bironas, a longtime friend, that he probably didn't need marketing help, given his kicking success with a high-profile NFL team. That changed October 21 — the day Bironas kicked a record-setting eight field goals during Tennessee's win over the Houston Texans.
Grenvicz said Bironas called her following the game and said, "How 'bout now?" She signed a contract with him Oct. 22.
He remains the Titans' leading scorer this year, and leads the NFL's American division in kicked points. He is also one of only three kickers in NFL history to win a game with a kick from 60 yards or farther out.
The move toward marketing may have been inevitable for Bironas: He once spent some time as a salesman for his father's automation business in Louisville, Ky.; and, he earned a bachelor's in marketing from Auburn University.
Among Grenvicz's priorities for Bironas: Setting-up a new website — MyBironas.com — for the 29-year-0ld Titan. Grenvicz said Nashville-based Bytes of Knowledge is handling web development.
Also on tap are producing and deploying the "My Bironas" theme song now popular among Titans fans, arranging licensing of The Knack's power-pop hit, "My Sharona," and securing celebrity-endorsement deals.
Grenvicz started her marketing practice in Nashville earlier this year, after seven years in Nashville and Chattanooga with First Horizon National Corporation. She earned her bachelor's in business management at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.
